FiveM Performance Profiling Tools & Optimization Guide
Optimize FiveM server performance with built-in CPU, client, and network profiling tools. Learn to identify bottlenecks, fix FPS drops, and monitor resource usage.
FiveM Performance Profiling
FiveM provides built-in profiling tools to measure CPU usage, identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize server resources. These tools help diagnose lag, FPS drops, and network issues through server console commands and client-side utilities.
Types of Profilers
| Profiler Type | Purpose | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Resource Time Profiler | Measures CPU usage per resource | Server-side |
| Client Profiler | Profiles scripts causing FPS drops | Client-side |
| Network Profiler | Monitors bandwidth usage and event spam | Network traffic |
Prerequisites
- Active FiveM server with console access
- Server console (txAdmin) or RCON access
- For client profiling: F8 developer console access and appropriate permissions
Server-Side CPU Profiling
1. Start the Profiler
To profile all resources:
profile start
To profile a specific resource:
profile start <resourceName>
2. Data Collection
Allow the server to run for 30-60 seconds during normal gameplay or testing conditions.
3. Stop Profiling
profile stop
4. View Results
profile view
The output displays:
- Resource name
- Average execution time (ms)
- Total function calls
- CPU percentage usage
Resources with high average or total times indicate performance issues requiring optimization.
Client-Side Performance Profiling
1. Initialize Client Profiler
- Press F8 to open the developer console
- Execute:
profiler record
2. Performance Testing
Perform actions that typically cause performance issues or frame drops.
3. Stop and Review
profiler stop
profiler view
4. Export Data (Optional)
profiler save <filename>
The exported file can be analyzed using Chrome's Performance Viewer at chrome://tracing.
Network Profiling
Real-Time Network Monitor
netgraph 1
Displays per-client network usage overlay similar to GTA Online's development tools.
Detailed Network Tracing
nettrace start
(perform network-intensive operations)
nettrace stop
Review logs for excessive event transmission or large data transfers.
Profiling Example
To diagnose inventory script performance:
- Execute
profile start inventory - Have players interact with inventory systems for 1-2 minutes
- Run
profile stopfollowed byprofile view - If average tick time exceeds 2ms, the resource requires optimization
Best Practices
- Conduct profiling during typical server load (10-20 players)
- Avoid profiling during server restarts or idle periods
- Investigate resources with >2-3ms average tick times
- Use
resmon 1for real-time performance monitoring overlay
