Configure Windows Firewall Ports for Game Servers
Learn how to configure Windows Firewall ports for game servers. Step-by-step guide to create inbound rules for port 30120 & txAdmin access. Essential setup guide.
Opening Windows Firewall Ports
Windows Firewall configuration is required to allow game server connections and administrative access. This guide uses FiveM server ports as an example, but the process applies to any game server or application requiring port access.
Example Port Configuration (FiveM)
This guide demonstrates configuration using FiveM's standard ports. Replace these with your application's required ports:
| Port | Protocol | Purpose | Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30120 | TCP/UDP | Player connections | Yes |
| 40120 | TCP | txAdmin web interface | Optional |
Creating Inbound Rules
Initial Rule Setup
- Navigate to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall
- Select Advanced settings
- Click Inbound Rules in the left pane
- Right-click Inbound Rules and select New Rule
TCP Rule Configuration
- Select Port and click Next
- Select TCP
- Select Specific Local Ports
- Enter 30120 in the port field
- Click Next
- Select Allow the connection
- Click Next
- Select appropriate network types (default settings work for most configurations)
- Click Next
- Enter a descriptive name such as "FiveM TCP"
- Click Finish
UDP Rule Configuration
Repeat the above steps with these modifications:
- In step 2, select UDP instead of TCP
- In step 10, use a name such as "FiveM UDP"
Additional Port Rules
Create separate rules for port 40120 using the same process if txAdmin web access is required.
